About

I am a senior researcher at Dynatrace Research, working at the intersection of software engineering, distributed systems, and data management. My research focuses on scalable and dependable software architectures, particularly for data-intensive applications in modern cloud environments.

What draws me most is how to build and run large-scale systems in practice: stream and event-driven processing, distributed deployments, and the observability needed to keep them understandable and operable. I enjoy connecting these topics to real platforms and tools such as Kubernetes, Kafka, and OpenTelemetry and then closing the loop with empirically grounded performance engineering, meaning careful measurement, benchmarking, and evaluation to understand trade-offs and design systems that hold up in the real world.

Projects

Theodolite is an open-source benchmarking framework for evaluating the scalability of cloud-native applications. It provides a systematic methodology and tooling to benchmark systems deployed in Kubernetes, measuring how well they scale under increasing load. Used in several research papers, particularly for stream processing systems.

ShuffleBench is a benchmark for evaluating distributed stream processing frameworks in use cases where they primarily shuffle (i.e., re-distribute) data records for state-local aggregations. Inspired by the requirements for large-scale, near-real-time observability analytics, ShuffleBench measures latency, throughput, scalability, and fault tolerance.

The Titan Industrial DevOps project aims at enabling continuous adaption and improvement in industrial production systems by making industrial data available for various stakeholders. The Titan Control Center is a scalable and extensible analytics platform for analyzing and visualizing data from Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sensors such as electrical power consumption in near-real time.
